Leadership & Pastoral Ministry In partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Pastoral Ministry/Leadership Practicum at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS), I had the God-given privilege of attending the annual For the Church conference virtually and reading a wide range of books on Christian leadership and pastoral ministry. The conference's theme in 2025 was "Kingdom Come: Ministry in Light of Glory." The morale and energy of the conference reflected this: The Kingdom had come, and the King was present in our worship and the proclamation of His Word.

I started the course very excited about this assignment, for I have previously struggled with Scripture reading and prayer, focusing most of my attention on my courses. While I recognize that learning is also a discipline to be embraced, I acknowledge now that it has led to the neglect of other, more crucial disciplines.

Book Reviews In the first chapter of his book Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, Donald S. Whitney argues that "the Spiritual Disciplines are those practices found in Scripture that promote spiritual growth among believers in the [G]ospel of Jesus Christ. They are the habits of devotion and experiential Christianity that have been practiced by the people of God since biblical times." He continues to explain that there are both personal, the kind on which the book focuses, and interpersonal Spiritual Disciplines.
